Did you know that in traditional Iranian medicine, foods and herbs are categorised according to their "temperature"? These do not refer to the actual physical temperature they have on the body.

"Hot" foods (such as saffron or turmeric) are considered stimulating and revitalising.

"Cold" foods (such as rice or yoghurt) are considered calming and balancing.

This is one of the reasons why saffron and rice are so popular together. This maintains the balance in the body.
